Saturday Game Night Recap

Two games were put on at the club Saturday night. The games played were Napoleon's Battles hosted by Paul Pease and the modern aerial combat game Flight Leader put on by Eric Lingren. Paul's game was set in 1814 France on the outskirts of Paris. The scenario depicted a French force attempting to stop the advance of an Allied force of Austrian, Prussian, and Russian units moving to capture Paris. Two three-player teams face-off in the game using Lamont Anderson's hex-based rules for Napoleon's Battles. In basically a frontal assault, the Allies advanced to break through the French defense situated on a ridge along the allies' line of march toward Paris. The game opened with the Allies first engaging the French left and over the next few turns the entire French defensive front was attacked. Below are a few photos of the game.

Eric's Flight Leader game is a based on the classic Avalon Hill game from the 1980s. Eric replaced using cardboard tokens with miniatures representing the different aircraft covered in the game. Saturday night's game had four players playing, two on each side, pitting American fighter jets against Soviet jets. Eric gave an explanation of the rules and then the game was on. Shown below are pictures of the first battle showing one of the US jets being shot down by a missile fired by their opponents.
