Two games were played Saturday night at the club. Walt Williams put on a small four-player game of his wildly popular World War II game WFG and Eric Widiger put on an American Civil War game. After playing with Paul Pease's charts last month, Walt updated some of his charts and put on this game to play-test the changes. The scenario was set in 1940 on the Western Front with the Germans facing off against the Allies.
For Eric's game, he has been using Johnny Reb 2.5, a well-known Civil War era ruleset, and his scenario was based on the Battle of Crampton's Gap, which was fought on 14 September 1862. The scenario was a replay of the Union's attempt to cut off part of Lee's Army in the Shenandoah before the battle of Antietam. The game focused on the Union attempt to break through the Confederate positions at Crampton's Gap. A successful attack would have allowed the Union forces to then fall on Lee's rear. The Civil War is not a era routinely played at the club, but Eric has done a great job whenever he has put on game.
