A good crowd was at the club this past Saturday night with three games being played. Topping the list was the latest installment of Doug Rains' War of the Roses Campaign. All ten campaign players took part in the battle which ultimately ended in a draw, the first of the campaign. Neither side was able to break the other in the allotted time for the battle so each side will now get a chance to regroup and face-off against each other during the Summer campaign season next month.
While the War of the Roses game raged, Paul Pease put on a World War II squad level combat game in 1/72nd scale. The game was a mash of Walt Williams' WFG and Avalon Hill's Advance Squad Leader. Each player commanded a couple of platoons of infantry and some vehicles in a fight over a small town set on the Western Front after the D-Day landings. Several players took part in the battle which saw a lot of carnage as several tanks were destroyed during the course of the battle.
The third game played Saturday night was Columbia Games Napoleon. The game is a two player game covering the French invasion of Netherlands in 1815 culminating in the Battle of Waterloo. This game uses wooden blocks to represent the various units participating in the battle adding a little "fog of war" since neither player knows what types of units he is facing until a battle occurs and the units are revealed.
