Walt Williams put on a game of WFG 2.0 Almost Written at the club last night. Four players took part in the game that was set on the West Front during World War II and had American paratroops battling German Fallschirmjagers for control of a French village. Both sides had to enter the table from opposite sides of the village and both sides' objective was to capture and hold the village. The town was made up of beautiful Crescent Root miniature buildings that really added to the setting. Crescent Root has several lines of wargaming terrain both in 15mm and 28mm scale.
In addition to WFG, two members test-played rules for playing Simultaneous Chess at the club. Simultaneous chess is where each player writes down their move for each turn before the pieces are moved on the chess board. This adds a lot of "fog of war" to the game as each player does not know what piece the other player is moving until their moves are revealed. This could result in someone trying to capture a piece that may or may not be in a particular square on the board after the moves are revealed and all the pieces have moved. It also forces each player to try to deduce what their opponent's move will be each turn. At least two games were played as the two members worked on refining the rules for future games.
