Saturday night CSGA President Andy Oertig awarded the CMH-CSGA DBx Smackdown award to CSGA team captain Doug Rains. Doug Rains and the rest of the CSGA team defeated the Colorado Military Historians' team this past summer to bring the DBx Smackdown plaque back to Colorado Springs. The following CSGA members represented our club during the tournament: Brian Cummings, Dick Fickes, Mike Garland, Roy and Art Hayes, Doug Mudd, Doug Rains, and Robert Scholtz. The CSGA will retain the plaque until the 2018 DBx Smackdown when hopefully we will successfully defend it! Thank you to all our team members for taking part and bringing the plaque back the CSGA. Below is President Andy presenting the DBx Smackdown plaque to team captain Doug Rains.
In addition to the award presentation two games were put on at the club. Greg Elliott put on a "The Age of Reason.... and the Undead" game and Eric Widiger put on an American Civil War game. Greg's game is a home-grown game design by Greg using features from the colonial game The Sword and the Flame. The game is fantasy based and pits humans against various monsters including vampires, werewolves and zombies. In this game two human players attempted to escort a group of civilians fleeing from a variety of monsters surrounding their village. Five people played and though after some initial successes the human players were overwhelmed by the forces of darkness. Below are a few pictures of the game.
Eric's game used the popular Johnny Reb 2.5 ruleset and the game depicted the Battle of Iuka, which was fought on 19 Sept 1862. The game lasted 12 turns and used a smaller than usual game table. Four players participated and the Union side came away with the victory.
