A lot of activity at the club this past Saturday night with three miniatures games and one board game being played. To kick the evening off Peter Hope put on a game of Star Wars Imperial Assault for four players. The game is a sci-fi skirmish game set the Star Wars universe, which allows players to command small groups of Imperial and Rebel soldiers along with characters from the Star Wars movies. This game and Star Wars X-Wing are probably two the more popular sci-fi games played at the club and are usually full to capacity with people wanting to play.
Cal Pearson put on his own sci-fi game of Fleet Commander. The game scenario had two teams of two players each, with one team trying to raid a space convoy being protected by the other team. Here is Cal's description of the scenario:
Scenario "Convoy Passage":
Phoebe forces are attempting to get a heavily damaged Cruiser to a repair depot, still a few portal jumps away. In the name of efficiency, the crippled Cruiser has been assigned to a normal supply transport convoy making the "Run". This particular "run" has been a steady source of "Liberated Supplies" for Amycles over the last couple of decades. The T.U.G. pilots rarely know if they have a protective military escort - Thus they are quite likely to dump the cargo modules and bolt.
Can the Phoebe fleets get the job done, "deliver" the goods and get the wounded home?
This game was another play-test for Cal to solidify his understanding of the rules before he put the game on at our club's upcoming Game Day in March. Cal was really impressed with the interest in his game and passed along his "Many thanks to all for playing FC and overall three cheers for a "full house" club night!"
In addition to the two sci-fi games, Walt Williams put on another WFG 2.0 Almost Written scenario for up to six players. The scenario was set in the year 1942 in North Africa and pitted units of the German Africa Corps against the allies. Another full compliment of players took part in the his game.
And finally Jeff Scott put on a game of his newly arrived copy of Thunderstone Quest. It's a fantasy board game that has "all the goodies" as Jeff described it and four players got an opportunity to try it out.
