New Year's Day Game Event

To celebrate 2019 Hobby Town owner Joe Muise put on a special New Year's Day game at his place of business. The game played was Walt William's WFG game and the scenario was based on the World War II movie "The Great Raid" that portrayed the rescue of US prisoners of war from a Japanese POW camp at the end of the war. Joe's game was split into two parts: one focusing on the rescue of the POWs, while the other on the battle to prevent Japanese reinforcements from reaching the camp. Ten players took part in the game that lasted throughout the day. The game followed the historical result of the battle as the American forces were able to successfully attack the POW camp and reach the prisoners.

The battle plan of the US forces was to launch a lightening attack and kill as many of the prison guards as possible before they could put on any sort of defense. Once the guards were killed, the prisoners could be walked out of the camp without opposition. The Americans were very successful at following their plan as they were able to attack through the main camp gate, while also blowing holes in the camp's fences next to the prisoner compound. While the attack occurred Pilipino guerillas defended a nearby river that the Japanese reinforcements had to cross. With two heavy machine guns and four squads of infantry, the guerillas were able to prevent the Japanese from crossing the river and reaching the camp. When the game was finally concluded, the allies were able to successfully rescue the prisoners as was the historical result of the battle.
