The main game at the club this past Saturday was a play-test of the new Osprey Game Rebels and Patriots. The game was put on by Robert Scholtz and four players took part. The scenario was set during the French and Indian War in North America and had a French and Indian force attacking a British detachment. The game was balanced with each side having similar forces so players could test the different features of the game. The play-test lasted almost three hours allowing most of the rules to be tested. High on the list of things noted about the game was the need for each type of unit to use its embedded game ability to get the most of each unit. Indian units need to use their inherent bonuses when fighting from in cover than trying to fight out in the open where they tend to out gunned by trained military units. For regulars and elite units, the bonuses for fighting in close order make that formation a must for inflicting the most casualties on one's opponent. Overall the game ran quite smoothly and everyone thought the game would be one they would like to play again.
